Elections

The Engineering Society of Queen’s University hosts elections for our Executive, Senators, and Year Executives on an annual basis. Elections are administered by the Elections Committee.

2017 Executive & Senator Elections

The elections for the Engineering Society Executive and the Senators will be held in January 2017. Nominations start on Monday, January 9, 2017, and completed nomination packages are due at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. On January 9, the packages can be picked up in the EngSoc Office, a preview of this package can be seen here. Campaigning will officially start on Monday, January 23, 2017. Following a week of campaigning, the election will be held on January 30 and 31, 2017.

The following positions are available: President, Vice-President (Operations), Vice-President (Student Affairs), Senator (two year position). Position descriptions are available below.

President

The President oversees the entire Society – this includes working with the Vice-Presidents to lead a team of twelve hired directors. The President specifically oversees the work of the Director of Academics, Director of Professional Development, Director of First Year, and Director of Human Resources. This position includes spending a good portion of time in EngSoc Council and AMS Assembly, as well as in various meetings with professionals and students. Last year there was a major restructure to Society leadership. The President will take an active role in continuing to develop and lead the new and/or changed positions. This is a paid summer position for 2017.

Vice-President (Operations)

The Vice-President (Operations) oversees the operational aspects of the Engineering Society. This includes the work done by the six services: Clark Hall Pub, Campus Equipment Outfitters, iCons, Science Quest, TeaRoom and Golden Words, as well as the budget and strategic planning process for Orientation Week and Science Formal. The Vice-President (Operations) specifically oversees the Director of Services, Director of Finance, and Director of Information Technology. This is a paid summer position for 2017.

Vice-President (Student Affairs)

The Vice-President (Student Affairs) oversees the Society from an “out of the classroom” perspective. This is a position that covers a broad spectrum of responsibilities and allows for the development of new projects. The Vice-President (Student Affairs) specifically oversees the Director of Communications, Director of Events, Director of Internal Affairs, Director of Design, and Director of Conferences. Additionally this position includes attending AMS Assembly and represent the Engineering Society to other student societies on campus. This is s a paid summer position for 2017.

Senator (Two-Year Position)

The majority of a Senator’s work is done within the University administration. They make important decisions that impact the entire University as a whole. The Senators has positions on the University Senate, Student Senate Caucus, the Applied Science Faculty Board, as well as the EngSoc Council. The Senators are free to vote as they please on issues that they face.

The Senator’s term will run from September 2017 to April 2019. This is not a paid summer position.
