About Orientation Week
Engineering & Applied Science Orientation Week is a fun-filled week designed to introduce incoming Applied Science students to the “renowned spirit and unrivaled excellence” Queen’s Engineering & Applied Science is known for.
Throughout the week, incoming students are introduced to the Queen’s campus, the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science, the Engineering Society, and the surrounding Kingston community. Devoted Orientation Leaders, FRECs, lead the incoming students through a variety of activities that test the creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm of the incoming class. Incoming students are immersed in the skills, traditions, and sense of community that make Queen’s Engineering & Applied Science stand apart. Events such as Highland Games, Thundermugz, and the coveted Grease Pole are planned throughout the year, and the whole week is entirely student organized by an organizing body known as FREC Committee.
Even if you choose not to participate actively, there is lots to see at each event and many people to meet along the way. Each student will have exposure to a devoted group of FRECs, the EngSoc Executive, the Alma-Mater Society, and the Faculty throughout the week. Incoming students will be exposed to clubs and activities, engineering design teams, and on-campus services. Incoming students take what they learn during Orientation Week and apply it to the many diverse situations they will encounter in their post-secondary career.
Queen’s Engineering and Applied Orientation Week is a phenomenal opportunity for incoming students to meet one another, learn and engage with upper year engineering students, and gather resources so they feel comfortable and prepared to start class. Orientation Week is truly an unforgettable week on campus and certainly not one you will want to miss!
Engineering & Applied Science Orientation Week will run from Monday, September 2nd, 2019 – Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, with another day on Saturday, September 7th, 2019.
If you have any questions, feel free to email the Engineering & Applied Science Orientation Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Transfer Student Information
Incoming transfer students to the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science (whether from another faculty at Queen’s or another university) are also welcome and encouraged to participate in Orientation Week.
Orientation week costs $190. The Queen’s Engineering Society believes that Orientation Week is not one to be missed and should be financially accessible to all incoming students. The Society will generously award bursaries based on a written application that will be reviewed confidentially by the Bursary Committee. The bursaries will be given to incoming students whom the Society deems to require financial assistance to participate in the week. There are a limited number of bursaries available. To apply for one, please go to https://bursary.engsoc.queensu.ca/application/ and fill out the necessary information. Be sure to change the ‘Event’ drop down menu to Orientation Week Registration. Please submit by Monday, September 9th, 2019. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to email Cierra Ioannidis at email@example.com.

The Queen’s Faculty of Applied Science is a community like no other. Immediately following the arrival of all incoming first years is an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience that welcomes each individual to their new home in four days of action-packed fun and unique activities. The component that sets apart Queen’s Engineers from all others in Canada is the camaraderie that is formed during this week, along with countless events throughout the year that are all long-standing traditions which have been taking place since the realization of the engineering faculty at Queen’s University. That being said, it is impossible to run such fantastic happenings without the generosity of sponsors and donators. An experience that involves well over one thousand individuals like O-Week also requires a large monetary commitment that the university makes every year to ensure that every incoming first year student has the best possible experience. This is the cornerstone of why the Faculty of Applied Science is so exceptional; keeping the traditions alive. If you want to ensure that yourself or someone you know has an equally remarkable welcome to Queen’s University -to their new home- please refer to the following link for more information on the week itself as well as how to get involved:
