This year Queen's will be hosting the 5th annual Professional Engineers of Ontario Student Conference. This conference provides a forum where the future of Ontario's Engineers can come together and discuss ideas and issues surrounding the Engineering Profession as well as global issues. Engineering students at Universities from all across Ontario will be attending the conference and we want to see lots of Queen's Engineers there as well!
The conference is running November 27-29, 2009 and is only $75 for Queen's students. To register for the conference and for more information, please visit the website, web.me.com/peosc.
Only 30 Queen's Engineers will be able to attend to get your registration in as soon as you can!
The Youth Action program is a brand new granting program that is focused on promoting engineering as a means to improve community to high school and first year college students. The intention of the program is to introduce Kingston youth to engineering and help them make a difference in their community using an engineering approach. As a member of the Youth Action Committee you will help come up with a theme for the competition, you will help promote the program to local high school and you will decide who will be getting the grants after reviewing the applications for this year’s competition. You will also attend some of the projects and help evaluate how successful the applicant was. This is your chance to be part of a new initiative and become a pioneer in this innovative program at Queen’s. Applications are due on Thursday, November 5th 2009. If you have any questions about the position, application or interview process, please feel free to contact Kasmet Niyongabo at excom@engsoc.queensu.ca, or Jackson Tse at youthaction@engsoc.queensu.ca.
Apply now, application forms can be found on the EngSoc website
Got a little free time on your hands? Want to become a part of an exciting and competitive design team. Each year, the Queen’s Concrete Toboggan Team designs, builds and races a toboggan with a concrete running surface. The toboggan includes braking and steering systems, as well as a full roll cage.
We are currently looking for a webmaster to design and maintain our website. Applications are available in the EngSoc lounge and online at http://engsoc.queensu.ca/applications. Applications are due by November 12th at 5:30 pm. If you have any questions, feel free to Nathan Murdoch at toboggan@engsoc.queensu.ca.
Interested in development? Want to spend three months in Ghana or Nunavut this summer? QPID is looking for you!
We have extended the deadline for site directors, and are still hiring cooperants to take part in a community based development project for the summer of 2010. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity to get hands on experience and learn about a new culture. All applications are due November 6th at 11:59 pm. Check out www.engsoc.queensu.ca/applications for applications or email Andrea and Misha at qpid.projectsdirector@gmail.com for more details.
This message is for all upper year students! If you want to satisfy that frosh week fix, then apply to be a Logistics Coordinator! As LCs, you would have a major role for Frosh Week in purchasing, sponsorship, logistics, training and much more. Besides being on FREC Committee, you would also get to drive the FREC Mobile and play the music! Applications are available on the EngSoc website and in the EngSoc lounge in the ILC. They are due Thursday, November 12th at 5:30 pm in the EngSoc mailbox in the lounge. If you have any questions, e-mail Claire Wunker, Orientation Chair, at 8cmmw1@queensu.ca.
