Rock the Gift (Rock Band Tournament)

Love Rock Band? Love Clark Hall Pub? The answer to that is obvious, so come out to Clark on March 9th to participate in ThankQ's second annual ROCK THE GIFT! Rock the Gift is a Rock Band tournament held in support of the graduating class gift back to Queen's. It was such a success last year that we're doing it again!

Get a team of 3 or 4 friends together and sign up to participate. All teams must have at least 3 different instruments within their band. Teams will be judged based on their crowd appeal (costumes anyone?), the amount of money they raise before and during the event, and, of course, your superior Rock Band playing skills. The winning team will not only get money donated towards their faculty's class gift, but a LASER BLAST PARTY for you and your friends!

Registration is open to ALL YEARS (you must be 19+ though because the event is held at Clark) and is $10 per team. Sci '10 REALLY wants to see everyone out there having fun though, so we're going to pay for the FIRST THREE TEAMS TO REGISTER!

For more information, or to register, send an email to sci10@engsoc.queensu.ca with the names and emails of all team members.

It promises to be a great night so don't miss out!

Attend the Commerce & Engineering Environmental Conference (CEEC) 2010

What:

CEEC was founded on the core principle of facing environmental issues with innovative solutions by leveraging the skill-set of Commerce, Engineering, and Arts and Science students. Delegates are offered an intimate environment to interact one-on-one with prominent leaders in the industry. This permits an exchange of ideas and develops meaningful relationships between delegates, speakers and corporate partners.

When:

CEEC 2010 will be taking place from Friday March 5th to Saturday March 6th 2010 at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Registration for CEEC 2010 begins on Monday February 1st and delegate fees cost $95.  The conference sold out in two days last year so make sure you sign up early to secure your place. There are also limited spots reserved for external delegates. Registration for CEEC 2010 is done entirely through our website at www.ceec.ca.

Where:

Portsmouth Harbor and Queen’s University, Kingston ON

Why should I attend CEEC?

CEEC is among the few conferences in Canada that uses a multidisciplinary approach to address environmental issues. Now in its 19th year CEEC has matured into a two-day conference with highlights including: keynote addresses, speaker sessions, the great debate, round table discussions, evening socials, and the annual CEEC Case Challenge.

CEEC draws prominent speakers from an array of different disciplines. CEEC 2009 speakers included: Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party; Bob Willard, author of The Sustainable Edge; and Corey Diamond, President of The Summerhill Group. CEEC 2010 is proud to present: Mike Gerbis, CEO of The Delphi Group; and James Bracken, Senior VP at AltaGas Income Trust to name few. For a full list of our speakers please visit:

Nation Technology Youth Leadership Conference (NTYLC)

The National Technology Youth Leadership Conference (NTYLC) is currently recruiting chaperones for this year’s conference. The NTYLC is a four-day event hosted by Queen’s University for  high school students. The conference runs from May 12th to 16th, and all chaperones must be available from May 10th through 16th, as some setup and training will take place before the conference. This year’s theme is Biomedicine, which means delegates (and chaperones) will hear from distinguished speakers on topics ranging from robotic surgery and tissue engineering to personal branding and leadership.

Chaperones accompany delegates to speaker sessions and help lead workshops on various biomedical concepts. They are also present at nighttime social events, and stay in residence with the delegates. The chaperone position is a volunteer position, however all chaperones are provided with accommodations in residence and meals for the duration of the conference (that’s 4 days of free food!).

If interested, please e-mail your resume as well as a short paragraph explaining why you are interested in the position to ntylc@ams.queensu.ca on or before February 22nd. For more information on the conference, please visit our website at www.ntylc.org.

Thank you,

Aboriginal Human Resource Council Potential Employment Opportunities

We will be hosting our second national Aboriginal recruitment fair as part of our Inclusion Works ’10 event this spring, and we need your help to spread the word to First Nations, Métis and Inuit post-secondary graduates.  The event will take place April 27-29, 2010 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. The online application deadline has been extended to February 19, 2010, please disregard any other notices you may see.  Employers participating are national/international organizations looking for aboriginal students soon to be graduating from your campus.  We would appreciate if you could please share this with your final year students and other department colleagues.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these students. This will provide you and your aboriginal students to identify additional opportunities regarding aboriginal recruitment within these participating organizations such as IBM, TransCanada, RBC, CanWest, SNC- Lavalin, and Ontario Hydro who are actively recruiting from this talent pool. We are seeking Engineers, Trades, Computer Science/IT, Business/Finance, Health etc.

We understand that many Aboriginal students may have not self declared with your institution they can apply online and self declare specifically for this event, and not feel they are obligated to self declare to your school, this information is confidential.

The grads will take part in a skill building session where they will be mentored on interview techniques, resume writing, media relations and much more. They will absorb many teachings from keynote and workshop speakers and they will rub elbows at a networking event and attend a gala evening with entertainers, employers, and corporate, government, educational and Aboriginal leaders from across Canada. Graduates will make connections and friendships with peers from across the country to start an initiative they call the Young Indigenous Professionals (YIPS).

Please visit our website at aboriginalhr.ca for more information on Inclusion Works ’10. Read testimonials from grads and participants that attended last year’s event.

You can download additional copies of the recruitment fair poster and web banner from our website at http://www.aboriginalhr.ca/en/inclusion10/recruitment.

Please contact Diane Carriere, National Director of Human Resource Development Strategies @ 204-285-3174

That’s all for this week, hope you’ve enjoyed your long weekend!
