ILC Fall Preview: Update Oct 17
ILC Fall Preview was great today and big thanks from Lauren Sharpe and myself to all the groups that came out. We’re really hoping you can make it to the other one on November 7th, and some new people too, so if you want to show up just email Lauren at sharpel@post.queensu.ca and she’ll set you up in the ILC.
Design Team Rountable
Finally scheduled for Saturday, October 31st, 1-2:30pm in ILC 120. Wear a costume if you’re feeling festive. Agenda.
Dean’s Donations: Update
Similar to AMS Cubs Grants, the fall term deadline has come and gone but if you missed it, you’ll have another opportunity in the winter. That deadline is set at Friday, January 8th.
AMS Clubs Grants: Update
The AMS Clubs Grants application deadline has now passed for the fall term. The remaining $12,000 will be given out in the winter term, so look out for that! Applications should be available in January or February.
Workshops!
The student leaders workshops came to a close this past Saturday with sessions including leadership and strategic planning. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. This series of workshops shows promise and with any luck will be hosted and built upon by VPSDs to come!
You can get the presentation slides off the new Resources page!
Big thanks to everyone who came and everyone who helped out. Ideas for next year’s sessions? Send the feedback form to Ed.
Civil Engineering Forum is looking for Speakers!
The weekly Robert and Joyce Jones Civil Engineering Forum is looking for speakers. The audience is undergraduate civil engineers and the setting is casual, and you can probably count on a slice of pizza or two. Groups such as the Concrete Toboggan and Concrete Canoe Teams, as well as the Queen’s Solar Vehicle Team have presented in the past. If your group has something interesting to share about what you’re doing or your plans for this year and the future, or if you’d like more information on the series, contact Reid Smith at reid.smith@ce.queensu.ca.
Feature Group: Who’s Next!?
The new Feature Group section of the website showcases the work and accomplishments of one of our fantastic student groups. The idea is to generate student interest while offering the spotlight to one group at a time. Thank you to MAST for being the first. If you would like to be the next featured group, just create a page modeled off the current one (can be in a word document, we can format it later) and submit it to Ed at vpsd@engsoc.queensu.ca!
ILC Fall Preview
The annual ILC Fall Preview is prime time for your design team to show off its stuff for prospective students and their parents. This year, the building staff is looking to put our projects on display throughout the building, not just in the team space. Contact Lauren Sharpe (sharpel@post.queensu.ca) to confirm that you will be there or for more information.
When: Saturday October 17th and Saturday November 7th
Where: Beamish-Munro Hall (ILC)
When: 9:30am - 3:00pm
AMS Clubs Grants
AMS Clubs Grants are due October 13th. Applications are available at the AMS Front Desk or online here (AMS Fall Clubs Grant Application). The grant has been increased from $5000 to $30,000 this year as part of a campaign promise, and now it’s time for you to take advantage! This grant is open to all AMS ratified clubs. Decisions are based upon the quality of the application and attendance at the AMS Clubs Conference.
Dean’s Donations
Dean’s Donations for the fall term are due by Friday October 9th at 4:30pm. See the dean’s donation page for more details and a list of what you need to include in your proposal. The winter term deadline is Friday, January 8th, 2010.
Questions about Dean’s Donations can be directed to Ed Watson (vpsd@engsoc.queensu.ca) or to Lisa Woodcock, Faculty Advancement Officer at lisa.woodcock@queensu.ca.
