Academia

University academics can seem very daunting but that’s all the more reason to be aware of your ressources! I’ve compliled a list of places to look for help, people to talk to and other ressources. Hopefully it helps. If you can’t find what you are looking for, fire me, Robin Johannsen, Director of First Year, an email at firstyear@engsoc.queensu.ca or contact the Vice-President Academic, Mike Brown, vpa@engsoc.queensu.ca!

1. Faculty!

  • First year students with academic questions or concerns should send an email to: Julie Boudreau, firstyr@appsci.queensu.ca or phone: 613-533-6000 x79406 or visit the Applied Science Student Services Office: Room 300 Beamish Munro Hall (ILC). The Applied Science website is a great place to find info, http://appsci.queensu.ca/studentinfo/ .
  • Do not be afraid to ask your professors and TA’s for help. Most are more than willing to help you out with something you are struggling with after class or during office hours.
  • J- Section. Sounds scary, but really it’s there too help you out!
  • HELPFUL WEBSITES!

Exam Bank, http://db.library.queensu.ca/exambank/ –A personal favourite, find old exams for practice

Exam Timetable, https://qcard.sso.queensu.ca/our/exams/fw/index.html  –Knowing when arn where you need to be is crucial!

First Year Timetables, by section,  http://appsci.queensu.ca/firstyr/timetables/

2. Student Support! The Engineering Society and your friends are all looking out for you!

  • FREC’s and upper year students have all been through the same classes you are doing and have great advice and know the material. “Hey, how did you study for the computer exam?”, for example.
  • Mike Brown, Vice-President Academic, (vpa@engsoc.queensu.ca) has answers to all your Academic needs
  • EngLinks, if you are looking for a tutor or want to be one! Go to http://engsoc.queensu.ca/academics/englinks/ or email questions to englinks@engsoc.queensu.ca
  • SEED, Students for Engineering Education Development. Think of SEED as a student-run consulting firm for engineering education issues. You can send general questions, comments, suggestions or gripes to  seed@engsoc.queensu.ca.

AND FINALLY, if you still have unsolved issues or can’t quite find what you are looking for here is a list of anything and everything academic, http://engsoc.queensu.ca/academics/academic-resources-and-partners/.

Have fun and good luck!
