Summer Projects...
Summer project partnerships in Northern Canada and abroad
In Canada and internationally, QPID participates in summer projects. The projects vary from region to region, but share a focus on collaboration and teamwork between QPID's Summer Project Cooperants and members of host communities to fill needs that have been recognized by host communities themselves. These two to three month projects provide host communities with eager volunteers, and our volunteers with a unique opportunity for a cross-cultural experience. QPID has participated in over 200 grassroots community development projects in Guyana, Ghana, Nunavut, Bolivia, Peru, India, Nicaragua, Burkina Faso and Kingston.

For 2011, our cooperants will be working on the following projects:
Accra, Ghana - The Kumasi Institute of Technology, Energy and the Environment (KITE) - Easy Business Centers 2nd phase.
Takoradi, Ghana - Friends of Nation - A sustainable fishery project where our cooperants will be collecting data, working with minority groups, making reports and raising awareness.
Kasane, Botswana - Ditshwanelo - The Botswana Centre for Human Rights: An advocacy civil society organization aimed at protecting, promoting and fulfuillment of Human Rights in Botswana.
Francistown, Botswana - True Men Trust - To facilitate the involvement of men in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Cooperants will assist particularly in organizational development.
Arviat, Nunavut - Hamlet of Arviat - We have had a long relationship with Kivalliq School Operations, but this year we will be partnering with the Hamlet of Arviat in Arviat, Nunavut.
The QPID cooperants have put together this update on their projects and their experiences in Ghana, Botswana and Nunavut in 2010. We hope you enjoy reading this update.
