QPID Mandate...

The intentionality of our project for development

All of the work that QPID is involved with relates directly to our mandate, guiding principles, vision and mission statement.

Our vision is:
"To foster a development consciousness in the Queen's community as a catalyst for local and global change."

Our mission statement is:
"QPID is a venue for collaboration among students and members of our host communities to share knowledge and promote development consciousness. QPID uses a holistic approach to development through engagement in critical thinking and informed action."

After making this statement, we looked at a lot of the broad terminology used, and then went forward to define this terminology in the context of QPID.

Venue for Collaboration: QPID brings people together and collaborates by engaging in activities and discussion that work to create a development consciousness. By taking a community-based approached to the work that we do, with an emphasis on knowledge sharing, we hope to facilitate lasting change both within our members and the communities in which we work.

Host Communities: Our host communities include the local Kingston community, the Queen's campus, various communities in Nunavut as well as communities abroad in Ghana and future Project regions.

Development Consciousness: QPID appreciates the complexity of development and encourages individuals to broaden their perspective and recognize the many facets of development in order to define what development means to them. This includes acknowledging the various privileges that individuals possess, and what that means for what their role should be in development.

Holistic Approach: QPID recognizes that there is not one correct approach to development and believes one should take in as many factors as possible when engaging with development.

Informed Action: QPID engages in informed action through engaging with our host communities and stakeholders as well as thinking critically and reflecting on the implications of our actions.
