Frame finished, powder coated and a
visit to VTF
For the past two weeks the team has been
going full out trying to get our frame and other parts
finished so that we can send it all out to paint. There were many late nights,
and our date to paint had to be pushed back by 3 days, but
we finally got it all finished. There are now only a few
loose ends before the car can be put on wheels, which will
hopefully happen next week.
With the frame finally completed, we
took it to CIC
coatings, who have been sponsoring us for a few years
now. We are all very impressed with how the paint turned out.
We also made a trip to VTF
inc this week to have our plastic parts formed.

Frame progress and new parts
It has been a long time since the last
website update, but the car has made some steady progress
during that time. The frame is now almost finished, and the
car is expected to be on wheels within the next few weeks.
In the last two months we have also
gotten a new transmission from CVTech, as well as machined a
lot of the new parts for our car. Below is a new gearbox
jackshaft ready to be sent our for gear cutting, and new
rear hub adaptors.

RHOs Completed
Despite the exams, the team put in lots
of time this week and completed the Roll Hoop Overhead
tubes, that make up a large portion of the car's frame. With
the RHOs completed, work has begun on the SIMs (Side Impact
Member) tubes that run along the sides of the car.
Earlier this fall, a small package
arrived from ISCAR tools. Inside it was their shipment of
new machining tools, including changeable milling heads,
high quality end mills and turning inserts. Queen's Baja
would like to thank ISCAR, and look forward to using these
tools.

Lowed Deck Completed
After countless hours of standing in
front of a grinder, the lower deck of the car has been
completed. Today the whole assembly is being welded
together. Construction of the necessary jigs for the RHOs
(roll hoop overhead) is beginning today, and the RHOs will
be bent next week.

Construction Begins
With the frame design finalized, the team
has begun fabrication of the 2009 car. As of the time of
this post the firewall has been completed and we are
awaiting a new shipment of welding rod before it can be
welded in place.

Frosh Recruitment
Frosh week has now come and gone, and we
have put together a sizable list of people who have
expressed interest in joining the team. To anybody
interested, there will be a meeting for new people on
Monday, September 15 at 7:00 PM in McLaughlin Hall room 306.
Everybody is welcome and no experience is necessary.
