The Engineering Society Council is a bi-weekly meeting of all voting and ex-officio members of the Society, as well as any members at large, where all decisions regarding the Engineering Society are made. EngSoc Council is the highest decision making body within the Engineering Society. Only 35 members have a vote, however any undergraduate engineering student is welcome to come out, observe, or speak to any motion!

How do I change policy/by-laws?
To change policy or by-laws, follow these easy steps!
- Keep track changes while you make edits to policy
- You will receive edits/recommendations from ERB to consider before submitting your policy/by-laws to council
- E-mail your track-changed copy of the policy/by-law you are changing to the Director of Internal affairs (email@example.com) for the Saturday night before council. You must also include a motion asking council to approve of the changes you want to make. It should look like the following:
WHEREAS, (reason #1 for changing policy/by-laws)
AND WHEREAS, (more reasons, if you have them)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: Council approve of the changes to Policy Section (insert section here) as seen in appendix “(whatever you want to name it here)”
However if you are changing a by-law instead of a policy section you must come and submit everything to TWO weeks of council. The first week your BE IT RESOLVED THAT will say “Council approve of the changes to By-Law (insert number here) in its first reading as seen in appendix ‘(whatever you want to name it here)’” and the following week your motion’s BE IT RESOLVED THAT will say “Council approve of the changes to By-Law (insert number here) in its second reading as seen in appendix ‘(whatever you want to name it here)’”
- Come to council on that Thursday at 5:45pm to speak for why you want your motion to pass, and make it happen!
It’s that simple!
You can expect interesting discussion on society governance, faculty and university decisions and civilised discourse. There are rules about when you can talk, and how the meetings are structured. Who’s invited to council?
There are 35 voting members of council, and 11 non-voting members of council. These 46 people are mandated to be at council meetings, however any engineering student who has paid their engsoc student fees are welcome to come join in at council!
Also, the Annual General Meeting is open to all undergraduate engineering students, with each having a vote.

The Engineering Society of Queen’s University hosts elections for our Executive, Senators, and Year Executives on an annual basis. Elections are administered by the Elections Committee.

Year Executive Elections
The First Year Executive are elected every September. We urge First Year students to come out to elections to either run or support your friends! Upper Year Executives are elected in March. Watch the All-Eng for more info!

The constitution and By-Law manuals of the society outline the basic organization, scope and role of the Engineering Society, while the Policy Manual outlines procedures and supported activities. Together they form the guidelines that govern the operation of the Engineering Society.
The constitution of the Engineering Society may be amended by a referendum, or at an Annual or General Meeting of the members. The By-Law manual may be amended through two readings. The first reading must always occur on an odd council meeting of the semester (meeting 1, meeting 3, meeting 5 etc), with the second reading occurring during the even weeks. The Policy manual may be amended every week.
