A Great Year comes to an End

This year has been a significant one for our team. Our most successful finish to date and the first time we've ever gone to 2 competitions. We've just returned from Formula Student which took place at Silverstone, UK and we were on pace for another record finish when a faulty sensor stopped the car with only 3 laps to go in Endurance.

Although disappointing, we were proud of the end result:

8th in Design
10th in Business Presentation
17th in Autocross
26th Overall

The road to Michigan 2011 has already begun but our current car is far from finished. Look for us at the Kingston 1000 Islands Poker run from August 6-8, the U of T Shootout on September 18th and Queen's campus events.

Stay tuned for recruitment updates and feel free to contact us if you're interested in our team.

Across the Pond

The Car shipped out of Toronto's Pearson International last night bound for the UK and we will follow suit later today. Next stop - Silverstone Circuit and the home of the F1 British Grand Prix. We are extremely excited to be 1 of 2 North American teams competing in Formula Student UK this year and we will proudly represent Queen's and Canada against the best of Europe.

Our Car has life!

We had our first drive today! After the frenzy of work to get our Cost Report submitted to the judges on time we were extremely excited to take our baby out for its first drive after the pain of knowing that it was ready to go sitting in the shop and we couldn't drive it.

We're looking forward to more than a month of testing and data acquisition before we head to Michigan for our first competition on May 10. Here is a photo that we took a few days ago in front of our Mechanical Engineering building.

We have a rolling chassis!

Assembly Begins

The powder-coated chassis arrived on Thursday and looks very professional, big thanks to CIC Coatings, and we have most of the car assembled. Lots of engine testing was conducted over the weekend and our race engine was mounted in the car!

Everything looks great and first drive could be just days away! Here's a shot of our dynamometer setup.

A flurry of construction

>>>>>>Yesterday our team collectively put in more than 100 hours of work and we were able to finish mounting everything on the chassis. We're now waiting on finish welding and then it's off to powder coat (provided by CIC coatings) and then final assembly. Driving is within sight now!

Progress

>>>>>>Progress is coming along well with machining nearing an end. We recently got back our anodizing order (from Graves Engineering & Finishing)and the parts look awesome. The rear uprights (below, red), differential housing, pedals, and shifter were all done to match our colour scheme of red, black and white.

Reading week just began and we're hoping to get a lot accomplished over a week with no classes to worry about.

Hard at work

>>>>>>Machining is in full swing as our chassis has been completed and we're working to get all of our custom parts turned out as we attempt to meet our ambitious goal of a reading week car.
